Roger Dubuis: this 300,000 euro watch will make you a knight!

The Knights of the Round Table are back in action at Roger Dubuis. The Swiss brand unveils the fourth watch in its King of the Round Table collection with a sublime edition in Damascus titanium.

If all 28 copies of this timepiece have already found owners, it’s hard not to be mesmerized by the dial of this gem sold for more than 300,000 euros.

Roger Dubuis perpetuates the myth of Excalibur and the Round Table

Dare to be rare. Dare to be rare. It’s this philosophy that has guided Roger Dubuis since its creation in 1995. A clever mix of watchmaking tradition and avant-garde design, the brand’s watches resemble no other: this is the case with the Monovortex concept unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2023, as well as the exceptional Hyper Watches or the iconic Excalibur… Well then, already a reference to the famous Arthurian legend.

It is within this collection that the first watch inspired by the Knights of the Round Table was born in 2013. Twelve knights and their swords, sculpted in gold, took place all around the enamel dial, like the guardians of time. Since then, Roger Dubuis has never stopped reinterpreting the myth, sometimes by adding a singletourbillon, sometimes by drawing inspiration from the island of Avalon or by bridging King Arthur and Chinese astrology…

At the end of 2023, the Swiss brand continues to follow in the footsteps of Wace and his Roman de Brut, inaugurating the fourth chapter of its King of the Round Table.

A watch of ice and fire with 12 rose gold knights

Price on request. Out of stock. You don’t need to be a watchmaking expert to understand that the new King of the Round Table has already become a legend. The 28 copies of this new creation were quickly snapped up… and it’s easy to understand why. Because once again, Roger Dubuis has the gift of dazzling us.

After rose gold, the brand chose Damascus titanium for this new version, an alloy widely used in cutlery, which offers a unique texture and visual rendering (with stripes that remind of certain felines). At the heart of this imposing 45mm diameter case, the dial is a genuine work of art.

Roger Dubuis evokes a winter adventure to present this watch tableau. We find 12 knights, 6 mm high, in rose gold, “seated” around a blue lake made of Murano glass, each adopting a different pose. The blocks of ice which seem to emerge from the water (and remind us of the scales of the Emera watch) are coated in Limoges porcelain biscuit. In the midst of all this, the moving hands seem to pierce the ice like the sword Excalibur could do.

To bring this mythological scene to life, Roger Dubuis has nestled the 172 components of his automatic RD821 movement within the case. Visible through the transparent back, it features a rotor inspired by medieval stained glass windows and boasts a 48-hour power reserve. Words from the wizard Merlin are also engraved on the perimeter, helping to perpetuate the legend of the Knights of the Round Table.

Priced at 300,000 CHF excluding taxes, this new variation of the King of the Round Table (ref. RDDBEX1058) may be the most beautiful one to date. The 28 lucky and wealthy owners apparently share this view.
