These Batman watches won’t make you a superhero (but will enhance your style)

Next to the Pepsi watches and Sprite, another very widespread nickname in contemporary watchmaking is popular with the male audience: the Batman watches. Recognizable by their two-tone blue and black bezel, they generally display a sleek, subtly sporty look.

If the Rolex GMT Master is obviously the benchmark, it has inspired many other brands, in sometimes very different styles. Discover a selection of some of the most attractive Batman watches of the moment.

OceanX Sharkmaster GMT

As its name suggests, the OceanX brand draws its inspiration from the maritime world. This is also confirmed by its most emblematic model, the Sharkmaster (or “master of sharks” in VF), whose design inevitably reminds of a well-known diver, a certain Rolex Submariner

Here too, then, the dial is crossed by a Mercedes hand and a lollipop second hand. On this version, it is distinguished by a “glacier blue” color very trendy this year, while the fluted steel bezel receives a blue and black ceramic insert.

As for the rest, the 42 mm diameter steel case houses a Seiko NH34 automatic movement. A reliable mechanism that provides this Sharkmaster with a 41-hour power reserve and allows OceanX to display a very interesting quality-price ratio, for less than 500€.

Yema Superman 500 GMT

Pepsi, Sprite, root beer… Yema has revisited all the classics with its Superman 500 GMT. But when you bear the name of a superhero, the Batman style seems even more essential.

The Mortuacian brand has beautifully revamped it with this new iteration, as the bidirectional aluminum bezel has been completely redesigned. Powered by the in-house GMT YEMA3000 caliber, this globe-trotter can display the time of 3 time zones, but it’s also a true diver’s watch, as it’s waterproof up to 500 meters.

Citizen Series 8

Representing the top of the line in Citizen’s collections, the Series 8 expanded in the fall of 2023 with the arrival of new 880 mechanical models. Alongside a stunning gold edition, this Batman watch is not lacking in charm either.

To defend the widow and the orphan in Gotham or to assert your style elsewhere, you can count on its 41 mm steel case topped by the famous two-tone blue and black bezel. This Citizen watch also stands out for the design of its dial, with its particular pattern “inspired by the architectural windows of Tokyo and symbolizing prosperity”.

To power this Series 8, we find the automatic Citizen 9054 movement, which offers no less than 50 hours of power reserve.

Formex Reef GMT

If you like micro-brands and other independent watchmakers, Formex is a name to know. Founded in Biel in 1999, its name is actually the contraction of “Extreme Form”, reflecting its desire to offer watches designed for adventure.

This is precisely the case with this Reef: waterproof up to 300 meters and equipped with a GMT function, this toolwatch will prove to be comfortable on all terrains. In its Batman suit, with its zirconium oxide ceramic bezel, it features a generous 42mm diameter steel case that’s just 11.4mm thick and weighs in at 90g on the scale.

Powered by an automatic Sellita SW330-2 movement, it can be fitted with a steel, rubber, leather, or Nato canvas strap.

TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Twin Time

We end this brief review of the most beautiful Batman watches of the moment with a model that has everything to please. Although it is usually closely linked to the automotive world, the iconic Carrera TAG Heuer seems capable of shining on all fields in this Chronograph Twin Time version.

At the heart of its imposing 45 mm steel case, topped by a fixed bicolor ceramic bezel, the skeleton dial lets glimpse the automatic HEUER 02 caliber. And because motor sports are inscribed in its DNA, this Carrera still sports a perforated rubber strap.

Of course, it would have been too “simple” to talk about the GMT-Master II from Rolex, even though it remains the most iconic of all Batman watches. This is also true for the Timex Q M79 which we have also seen in Sprite and Pepsi versions…

And while one may be surprised not to see any blue and black models from Tudor or Certina today, there are still numerous references of the same style from more affordable brands but not lacking in interest, such as the Davosa Ternos Professional (a tad too inspired by the crown brand) or the Spinnaker Dumas GMT, with a price slightly over 500€.
