The 5 tips to apply tonight if you want to avoid a hangover tomorrow morning.

From Champagne to the aperitif, a good Burgundy wine with the snails, a nice red on the turkey and some Porto on the chocolate log… The end-of-year festivities are often difficult and this should be anticipated. After Christmas, there is the New Year’s Eve which is often (too) watered down for many of you.

But beware of not getting carried away by the intoxication of pleasure because then, the morning after is even harder! So, to prevent turning this day after the party into a nightmare, here are five tips to follow:

Drink in moderation

The best way to avoid a hangover is to not drink alcohol, or to do so in moderation, yes yes, it may seem obvious, but it doesn’t hurt to remind it.

For alcohol enthusiasts, it is recommended to limit oneself to one glass per hour and to make sure to hydrate well with water. When one starts to feel tipsy, it is advised to stop drinking alcohol and to favor hydrating beverages.

Rehydrate during the evening

Another way to avoid a hangover is to rehydrate throughout the evening. For this, it is recommended to drink water, juice, ginger tea, or even energy drinks. Some specialists even recommend coconut water, which is rich in potassium and can offer rapid rehydration.

A good tip is to follow the following rule: one glass of alcohol, one glass of water, one glass of alcohol, one glass of water, until the end of the evening. This may force you to take frequent bathroom breaks, but it can help you avoid a hangover the next day.

Eating before drinking alcohol

Eating before drinking alcohol can help slow down the body’s absorption of alcohol. Therefore, prioritize foods high in protein and fat, which can help absorb alcohol more slowly.

This can help you avoid the effects of alcohol on your body and reduce the risk of a hangover.

Drink coffee

Drinking coffee and taking painkillers can also help reduce the effects of alcohol on the body. A study published in 2010 in the online journal PLoS One showed that this method was particularly effective when practiced around four hours after a heavy night out, as this is when the level of acetate in the blood begins to increase, often causing headaches the next morning. Therefore, drinking coffee can help reduce the effects of alcohol and prevent hangovers

Sleep Enough

Getting enough sleep is also very important to avoid a hangover. Alcohol can disrupt the sleep cycle, so it is advisable to go to bed early to ensure a good night’s sleep the night before. Also try to go to bed in a cool, dark room, and use a comfortable pillow for better sleep quality.

By getting enough sleep, you should be able to wake up in good shape the next morning and have a pleasant day, even if you drank alcohol the day before (and then, you have to be ready to do it all over again on January 1st!).

By following these five tips, you should be able to avoid hangovers during the holiday season and fully enjoy your evenings in complete tranquility. Don’t forget that alcohol should be consumed in moderation and that your health should always be your priority.
