A cult watch in more than one respect, the TAG Heuer Monaco manages to reinvent itself and surprise us 55 years after its creation. The Swiss brand has indeed just unveiled a new deep blue version that is particularly attractive. Its price: 11,100 euros.
The Monaco, an icon of sports watchmaking for 55 years
After celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Carrera in 2023, TAG Heuer celebrates another important anniversary in 2024: the 55th anniversary of the Monaco. If we add the Formula 1, it’s a glorious trio that embodies the Swiss brand’s passion for motorsports.
Launched in 1969, the TAG Heuer Monaco quickly made its mark in watchmaking history with its bold and innovative design. Its square case, left-sided crown, and blue dial were revolutionary for the time. Obviously, this watch quickly won over motorsport enthusiasts, but more broadly, it seduced watch collectors from around the world.
Beyond its prestigious name, this timepiece could rely on another high-impact ambassador: Steve McQueen, who wore it in the movie “Le Mans” in 1971, greatly contributed to forging the myth of the Monaco and strengthening its ties with auto racing.
Since then, in over 5 decades, TAG has continuously revisited its icon, and every new version has improved the precision and distinctive design of this unique model.

The Monaco chronograph sees life in blue
In recent months, the famous square watch from TAG Heuer has already distinguished itself with several spectacular variants. Think notably about the Split-Seconds Chronograph over 135,000 euros presented at Watches & Wonders 2024 or even the Racing Blue edition which was already dressed in blue in tribute to the French Racing Blue color. This time, TAG Heuer wants to “pay a modern tribute to the historic past and heritage of motor sport conveyed by the collection, while testifying to the continuous watchmaking innovation that the brand demonstrates”. Quite a program!
Concretely, the new version of Monaco (reference CBL2188.FT6261) is equipped with a 39 mm case made of grade 2 titanium with black DLC treatment, combining robustness and lightness. The domed and beveled sapphire glass protects the dial, while the sapphire glass caseback allows you to admire the sophisticated mechanism. It is the automatic Calibre Heuer 02 movement, which offers an impressive 80-hour power reserve.

The skeleton dial also allows one to glimpse some gears of this mechanism, notably the date disk around the edge. As for the rest, the sandblasted blue dial is enhanced by three distinct counters: at 3 o’clock for the chronograph minutes, at 6 o’clock for the continuous seconds, and at 9 o’clock for the chronograph hours. The yellow lacquered hands offer a striking contrast and facilitate the reading of essential information, including a captivating effect in the dark.
Waterproof up to 100 meters, this watch is equipped with a blue rubber and embossed calf leather strap, to perfect its sporty look. Available since this month of May 2024, this new variation of the Monaco is offered at a price of 11,100 euros.
