With H. Moser & Cie, prepare yourself for the return of the dragon!

Upon its launch in 2020, the Streamliner collection immediately caught the eyes of enthusiasts. Because of its style and elegance, of course, but also thanks to the color of its dial, which earned it the nickname “green dragon”.

After putting the production of this watch on hold, H. Moser & Cie has (finally!) decided to restart it today. And if the iconic Matrix Green hasn’t lost any of its charm, it is now joined by a stunningly beautiful Purple Haze watch!

The Streamliner Centre Seconds, a colourful icon

To know whether a watch is successful or not, or rather if it enjoys real popularity, it is enough to know if enthusiasts have given it a nickname or not. At Omega, the term Moonwatch has all but replaced the official Speedmaster designation. At Rolex, we can no longer count the nicknames of the GMT-Master (Pepsi, Pussy Galore, Fat Lady, Batman…). Less known to the general public, the Subzilla from Panerai, Flying Pizza from Breitling and Monster from Seiko can count on a real fan community. And the “Green Dragon” can undoubtedly claim to be part of this circle.

This “green dragon” is indeed the nickname given to the Streamliner Centre Seconds unveiled by H. Moser & Cie in 2020. There’s no need to look far for the reason: this name refers to the color of the watch’s dial. A smoked green, “Matrix Green” according to its commercial denomination, which offers beautiful shades ranging from olive green to red gold (at least, that’s what the brand says!).

The success of this watch was immediate, so much so that the Swiss brand decided to pause production. And since H. Moser & Cie likes to put color into its timepieces, it rode on the salmon trend in 2023, with a Streamliner Centre Seconds Smoked Salmon “which goes from chocolate to gold, depending on the wrist’s orientation”. Here too, this novelty didn’t go unnoticed, but Moser finally gave in to public demand by relaunching its already iconic green model this year. But here’s the thing: the dragon is no longer alone, as the Streamliner also dresses in “purple haze” in its Purple Haze version in 2024.

A 3-hand watch, embodiment of sophisticated minimalism

If the dial’s color is the first element that catches your eye on this Streamliner Centre Seconds, it is obviously not the only one that deserves your attention. Because, to stand out with a 3-hand watch, H. Moser & Cie claim that “it’s the details that make the difference”. And that’s good, because this one does not lack them!

The brand offers us a lovely journey back in time with this collection, whose simple name evokes the 1920s-30s. Its steel case, cushion-shaped, displays a diameter of 40 mm but the absence of horns and the perfect integration of the bracelet allows it to dress the finest wrists. The alternation of polished and brushed surfaces as well as the domed sapphire glass allows the watch to shine brightly and (especially) to reveal different facets depending on the ambient light. This play of light comes into its own on the dial, whether it’s the 50 shades of green or the intense violet with bluish reflections.

This new iteration of the Streamliner continues to subtly reinvent itself, as evidenced by the transition to the transparent lacquer logo. Another significant change is at the heart of the case, since the automatic movement HMC 200 gives way to the caliber HMC 201. A mechanism that is still 100% Swiss and 100% manufacturer, of course, which guarantees a power reserve of at least 3 days. Visible through the back of the case, this new caliber has nothing to hide, revealing its partially skeletonized bridges, its chiseled rotor, its bidirectional winder and its beautiful oscillating weight engraved in solid 18-carat gold.

Proposed at 21,900 CHF, or a little over 22,000 euros, this new Streamliner Centre Seconds is a truly beautiful piece of high-end watchmaking. Four years after its appearance, the “green dragon” has undoubtedly lost none of its charm. It only remains to be seen what nickname the purple version, equally attractive, will receive!
