Zebra: Konstantin Chaykin’s new wrist monster is adorable (but not only that!)

February 12, 2024 - #Push #watch

Konstantin Chaykin’s “wrist monster” family is growing! After the Joker and the Russian character Kolobok, the iconic Wristmons collection welcomes a new incredibly endearing zebra. Beyond its distinctive design, this unique watch is also the first to house an automatic movement with a mini-rotor completely designed and manufactured in Russia.

A Konstantin Chaykin watch, it’s a whole story

Here is a watch that lives up to its name! Named Zebra, the latest creation from Konstantin Chaykin adds a new face to the Wristmons collection (for “wrist monsters”), these original watches that combine high-end watchmaking and art.

Konstantin Chaykin

Once again, we find the innovative and endearing design born in the mind of Konstantin Chaykin, with the image of a zebra to offer a playful and imaginative interpretation of time display. The weekday windows are cleverly hidden in the zebra’s nostrils on the dial, an aesthetic trick already seen in the Minotaur model but with a striking novelty: the names of the days are now in Russian. To improve the readability of this indication, Chaykin has integrated sapphire lenses into the windows, a feature he developed for the unique weekday indicator with wildcard emojis in the Joker Selfie Only Watch 2019 Unique Piece and also reused in the Minotaur watch.

A unique piece created at the request of a customer, the Zebra is also characterized by an innovative case design where the horns act as the character’s ears, deviating from the standard design of the watches in this collection. In addition, a new smiling complication never used before in the Wristmons collection, makes its debut: the crown mode indicator. When the crown is pulled, the bottom of the Zebra’s smile changes from white to red, allowing the animal to stick out its tongue and adding an emotional and fun touch to the watch.

The first movement designed and manufactured in Russia

If the design is obviously the first striking element of this new Zebra, its mechanics are not left behind. It is indeed powered by the K.33.3 calibre, which marks a significant step in the evolution of Konstantin Chaykin watches. Not only is it the first automatic movement with a mini-rotor entirely designed and manufactured by the Russian manufacture, but it also represents a major technical advance for the brand.

Calibre K.33.3 Konstantin Chaykin

This new automatic base caliber is the result of Konstantin Chaykin’s long-standing ambition to develop a universal caliber unique to the brand, suitable in its simplest form as well as in combination with a variety of complications.

The choice of an automatic winding system with a mini-rotor allows for a reduction in the overall thickness of the movement, resulting in a more elegant and slim watch. This mechanism also gives the watch exclusivity, as mini-rotor calibers are primarily produced by prestige brands in limited quantities.

No less than three patent filings were needed to achieve this calibre K.33.3. It underscores Konstantin Chaykin’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation while respecting the principles of high-end watchmaking. Because beneath their quirky and original artistry, Chaykin’s watches are also (and above all) real timepieces.
