What makes a luxury watch beautiful? Its astronomical price? Its horological complexity? Its unique style? Likely a little of all of these at once. Indeed, the new Purity Tourbillon collection from ArtyA appears to fulfill all these criteria… especially the last one!
Offered in three forms and sizes, it stands out for its bold design, characterized by technicality and… a lot of colors!
9 grams of purity in an exceptional watch
Tiny Purity, Curvy Purity, and Purity Tourbillon. This is how the new watch collection from ArtyA is presented, which is certain not to go unnoticed. In these three variants, a specific element allows the brand to showcase its creativity and technicality: the case.
This one is made of sapphire (from 39 to 45.5 mm in diameter) and “benefits from a technology that transcends the usual color codes of high-end watchmaking”, says ArtyA. While it can make do with a transparent white dress, this casing can also don a two-tone spotlight outfit, thanks to the use of NanoSapphires (like the ‘Chameleon’ and ‘Bicolor’ offering two distinct shades). Orange, green, or even a combination of yellow and purple: there’s something for every taste! Beyond mere aesthetic coquetry, the Geneva-based house wants to highlight the exceptional resistance of this material. Sapphire is indeed known as the third hardest after diamond and moissanite, and its shaping requires rare skill.
The show does not stop at the edges of the case: ArtyA’s Purity tourbillon is also a masterpiece of precision. With a substantial diameter of 18 mm, it was designed as a standalone element for this new collection. This movement weighs no more than 9 grams, beats at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a comfortable power reserve of 72 hours. And if it was beaten to the finish line by the Voutilainen World Timer watch, the ‘Tiny Purity Tourbillon Chameleon’ edition (available at a price of 155,000 CHF) did not steal its nomination for the GPHG 2023 in the Men’s Complication category.
ArtyA, a unique Geneva-based brand
If some grumpy minds lament a certain standardization of the watchmaking landscape in general, and of the luxurious creations of Swiss brands in particular, the new Purity Tourbillon collection only confirms the… different positioning of ArtyA!
Creative, independent, avant-garde, exuberant, baffling: all these adjectives can help define the brand founded by Yvan Arpa in Geneva in 2009. In fact, the creator himself has had an unconventional professional journey. After starting his career as a mathematics teacher, he then steered towards the world of luxury and watchmaking. With a simple realization: no one needs a watch to tell time anymore. The timepiece must therefore leave its simple practical function to become an aesthetic object while conveying emotions.
With the Son of Sound collection and its casing inspired by the neck of a guitar, Yvan Arpa strikes a chord with music lovers. With Son of Earth Butterfly, he showcases unique pieces whose dials are made with butterfly wings (sourced from certified farms, no endangered species!). Next to these models, the new Purity Tourbillon collection might seem almost conventional, yet it is one of the most fascinating at the start of the year 2024!
