The new Jacob & Co. watch makes time float (and it’s very beautiful)

Jacob & Co. used the Geneva Watch Week 2023 to unveil an exceptional watch inspired by the casino. For the 2024 edition, the New York brand plays more on the card of sobriety… but still with a timepiece that stands out. The Astronomia Regulator adorns itself with a vertical rotating movement whose 3D architecture captures the eye.

The “revolutionary” architecture of Astronomia watches

Jacob & Co. ceaselessly reinvents watchmaking with pieces that defy the imagination. Since the first editions of the Astronomia launched in 2016, the brand has been able to captivate the public and enthusiasts with watches with bold designs and avant-garde mechanisms. We have mentioned the Casino Tourbillon in the introduction, but this also applies to the Epic SF24, the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon (with its own miniaturized W16 engine!) or even the Astronomia Sky. These pieces, true masterpieces of engineering and design, embody the very essence of the innovation and creativity that have made the brand’s reputation since its creation in New York in 1986.

True to its slogan, “Inspired by the Impossible”, Jacob & Co unveiled its first Astronomia watch in 2016, with an architecture then presented as “revolutionary”. The watch stood out for its rotating vertical tourbillon movement, built like a carousel with multiple satellites revolving around a central axis. And of course, each of these satellites showcased a precise watchmaking complication. While this first movement performed a complete rotation in 20 minutes, Jacob Arabo had always announced a desire to speed up this time.

This is how the Astronomia Regulator now completes a full rotation in just 60 seconds. By combining a revolutionary design with cutting-edge watchmaking techniques, Jacob & Co. once again delivers a unique interpretation of time.

The new regulator Jacob & Co., inspired by the impossible

With the Astronomia Regulator, Jacob & Co. reinvents the concept of the regulator by bringing a new and spectacular dimension. The watch, equipped with a new vertical rotating movement, completes a full rotation in 60 seconds, offering a dynamic representation of the passing time. Its dimensions, a 43mm diameter and 18mm thick rose gold case, make it an exceptional piece that stands out not only for its aesthetics, but also for its technicality.

Featuring 552 components, the JCAM56 caliber that powers this timepiece is the thinnest Astronomia movement ever designed by Jacob & Co. It provides this Regulator with a 48-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 21’600 vph. The movement’s architecture, coupled with a perfect mastery of energy, allows for remarkable accuracy, paying tribute to the history of regulators while introducing unprecedented innovation.

Because yes, even though it seems at the cutting edge of technology, the watch from Jacob & Co. has once again been designed as a tribute to watchmaking techniques. The regulator, with its separate time indications, has historically played a crucial role in watchmaking workshops, providing a precise time reference for craftsmen. The Astronomia Regulator takes this legacy, with distinct sub-dials for hours and minutes, and a seconds hand that moves counterclockwise along a translucent ring, offering a reading of time that is both accurate and artistic.

With this unique concept of movement and these translucent blue subdials, time does not merely seem to pass: it floats in the heart of the watch, and the result is visually captivating. Produced in just 250 pieces, this new Jacob & Co. Astronomia Regulator is available for 280,000 euros.
