The Louis Erard x Olivier Mosset Regulator: Is it a watch or a work of art?

From contemporary art to watchmaking, it’s only one step! Some brands even seem to think that the two worlds can only be one… After discovering the astonishing M2/05 from Sevenfriday, it’s Louis Erard who surprises us with his new collaboration.

The Regulator, created with Swiss artist Olivier Mosset, is a watch truly unlike any other. A veritable bridge between luxury watchmaking and art, limited to 178 copies.

The Regulator switches to the dark side

The Regulator, it’s a classic from Louis Erard. And even though it has already been offered in many ways, it has never revealed its dark side to this extent. At the heart of this watch lies a bold design that transcends traditional expectations.

With its 42 mm stainless steel case, coated in black PVD for a matte and sophisticated finish, and its minimally decorated lacquered dial, this piece immediately catches the eye. The silver glitters, sparingly scattered, catch the light; they seem to evoke at the same time the Milky Way in a moonless night sky… or the glittering asphalt in the full moon, a nod to Olivier Mosset’s passion for motorcycles and long rides on the road.

The text is a proper noun and it is the same in English – Olivier Mosset.

With its (almost) monochrome look, this watch inevitably catches the eye. It fascinates. Despite everything, it remains relatively legible, thanks to its three consistent in size and shape hands, with the exception of the hole located at their base. Stacked on top of each other, they add an artistic dimension to Louis Erard’s Regulator, like the reflection of a geometric and chromatic abstraction.

Under this artistic guise hides an automatic Sellita SW266-1 caliber regulator movement, guaranteeing precision and reliability to meet the expectations of fine watchmaking enthusiasts, despite a small power reserve of only 38h.

Louis Erard loves artistic collaborations

Beyond its innovative design, The Regulator Louis Erard x Olivier Mosset embodies a vision where watchmaking transcends its primary function to become a vector of artistic expression. Each watch, accompanied by a red seal proclaiming “work of art – do not wear” (“work of art, do not wear”), defies conventions and enriches the dialogue between the worlds of art and watchmaking.

This collaboration is part of a broader approach by Louis Erard, who continues to explore uncharted territories through limited editions, thus asserting his status as a creative outsider in the watchmaking universe. After partnering with Alain Silberstein and Konstantin Chaykin, the Swiss brand recently distinguished itself with its Petite Seconde Metropolis designed with The Horophile, which was also limited to 178 copies.

With this new Regulator created with Olivier Mosset, Louis Erard celebrates art in a very beautiful way… even if it might not appeal to everyone. With this limited edition, the brand once again wants to invite us to reflect on time, art and their interconnection, and offer a unique experience to collectors and lovers of contemporary art. An experience that has a price: 3750 CHF excluding taxes, which is about 4800 euros.
