It’s well known, men have the unfortunate reputation of not knowing how to dress with colorful clothes and overusing black. Said like that, it sounds a bit cliché. However, these old habits die hard and it’s clear that many of you still believe that a black outfit is necessarily chic and attractive, in addition to enhancing your masculinity.
However, choosing black clothes (either partially or as a total look) is not as simple as you might think…especially if you don’t want to come across as a metalhead or an undertaker. 1. Choosing the right time to wear black
Black is a trap color that too many men wear out of convenience. Honor it only in a very specific context. For a formal occasion, select a deep black suit or tuxedo and accessorize it with a watch, a colorful tie, or even socks or laces in bold tones.
Let your creativity speak, otherwise your look will be boring and sorely lacking in originality! Don’t give the impression of going to a funeral every day !
2. Incorporate black into your outfit sparingly
The total black look can be seen as the best way to avoid a fashion faux pas. However, excessive black can harshen your features and accentuate dark circles and other wrinkles. For Thierry Ardisson, it’s a trademark, but for you, forget it!
By using black in small touches, your outfit will instantly highlight you. It should ideally be combined with items made of visual materials such as jeans, or colorful ones like turquoise blue.

Choose a slim jean rolled at the ankles and soft leather shoes for a vintage outcome. Forget the socks and put on a black shirt, making sure to button it up to the collar. If you’re afraid of looking too austere, opt for an oversized top in natural tones (olive green, blue…).
Finally, black pairs perfectly with the English style: a well-fitted black or anthracite gray suit, highlighted by a white shirt. You can replace it with an off-white V-neck t-shirt for a more casual look. On your feet, opt for derbies and to complete the outfit, all you’ll have left to do is put on a camel trench coat.
